An audit of a video surveillance system is a comprehensive technical check of the condition of the equipment and the quality of the entire system in order to identify weaknesses and increase efficiency. This procedure allows you to understand how well the current configuration meets the security requirements, whether the control zones are properly closed, whether the video data storage system is working properly, and whether there are any risks of information loss.

An audit is required for frequent failures, system upgrades, before the facility is put into operation, as well as as part of a regular audit of the corporate security infrastructure. The check allows you to detect worn-out equipment, incorrect settings, or network security vulnerabilities in a timely manner.

Professional audit includes several mandatory stages. First, initial information is collected: design documents, equipment specifications, and system commissioning certificates are studied. Next, the auditors inspect the installed cameras, recorders, servers, and network equipment. The physical condition of the devices, the correctness of their installation, the presence of damage, traces of unauthorized interference are assessed.

Special attention is paid to checking the coverage area. The “blind spots” are determined, and it is evaluated whether the camera viewing angles are correctly selected and whether they correspond to the surveillance objectives. Design errors are often identified during an audit: insufficient overlap of important passages, lack of control over critical areas, and too high or low recording resolution.

At the next stage, the quality of the equipment is tested. The operation of video recorders, the accuracy of event recording settings, the image quality during the day and at night, and the correctness of the operation of analytics systems and motion sensors are checked. The stability of the archive is analyzed: the shelf life of video recordings, data availability, protection from deletion or damage.

One of the important audit blocks is checking the network infrastructure. The bandwidth of data transmission channels, protection from external threats, and the correctness of firewall and storage server settings are evaluated. If cloud solutions are used, the channel encryption and access protection settings are additionally checked.

The audit results in a detailed technical report. It indicates all the identified shortcomings of the system: equipment malfunctions, flaws in the arrangement of cameras, risks of data loss, violations of regulatory requirements. The level of criticality is compared to each item and practical recommendations for correcting the situation are given.

Audit results often show that some of the equipment can be upgraded without completely replacing the system, limiting itself to fine-tuning the camera configuration, strengthening network protection, or updating software. This allows you to optimize costs and increase the service life of the existing system.

Conducting regular audits of video surveillance systems is the key to their reliable and uninterrupted operation. Even minor setup errors or equipment wear can lead to the loss of important video data at a critical moment. Timely diagnosis helps to prevent such situations and ensure a high level of control over the safety of the facility.
