Compositions for protecting metal from fire are conditionally divided into two main types:
Coatings without swelling.
They are made on the basis of silicates or liquid glass. Such materials form a dense and high temperature resistant layer. They are used where it is important to provide long-term surface protection.
Coatings with a swelling effect.
Under the influence of high temperature, these paints significantly increase in volume, forming a porous insulating layer. The protective layer can become ten times thicker, which effectively prevents heat transfer to metal structures.
