Site preparation. Marking the mounting points for turnstiles and laying cables. The base must be level and able to withstand the load from the device and users. To ensure reliable fixing, the surface is reinforced (concrete screed or metal plates).
Turnstile mounting. Turnstiles are secured with anchor bolts. All fastening elements are tightened to account for vibrations during operation. When installed in high-traffic areas, it is important to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for minimum gaps to ensure proper rotation and protect the mechanism.
Power and interface connection. Turnstiles require connection to a power supply (usually 12–24 V DC or 220 V via a power supply unit). Cables for signal lines (RS-485, Wiegand, Ethernet, depending on the model) are also laid. The power supply line must be protected with automatic circuit breakers and residual-current devices (RCDs).
Integration with the access control system. Turnstiles are connected to the access control unit, which manages access modes. Input/output signals (access permission, blocking) and emergency modes (unlocking in case of fire or power failure) are configured. Compatibility with software (1C, Active Directory, biometric terminals, etc.) is checked.
Testing and configuration. All functions are tested: one-way and two-way access, signals from the system, proper operation of barrier arms. A setup log is maintained. If necessary, sensors and readers are calibrated.
Ensuring emergency modes. Turnstiles must unlock in the event of an emergency evacuation. For this, emergency open buttons (Break Glass) are installed and integrated with the fire alarm system. When a fire signal is received, turnstiles switch to free passage mode or fully unlock.
Documentation of works. After installation, a commissioning report is prepared. It specifies the connection parameters, equipment settings, and test results. This document is required for maintaining the system in the facility’s operational documentation.
Types of turnstiles: tripod, full-height, swing (speed gates). Each type has its own requirements for passage width, load on fasteners, and control algorithms.
Power supply: using uninterruptible power supplies during installation is essential to prevent failures during power outages.
Software compatibility: most modern turnstiles support integration with various controllers and cloud platforms. Setting up interfaces (RS-485, Wiegand, TCP/IP) is a key part of installation.
Warranty considerations: improper installation may void the manufacturer’s warranty. Certified specialists should perform the work.
